science & story

understanding Science Through story

I’ve been a scientist and a storyteller throughout my life. Experiments with electricity, chemistry, and physics started when I was a toddler. I always had a good story to explain that the experiments were both educational and safe. Somehow (thanks Mom) I survived and earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry with post-docs at Yale University and the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. After many years of working as a scientist and educator, I discovered the arts. WOW!

Silly Beaker LLC interweaves the arts of storytelling and media production with science to deepen comprehension and appreciation of science and art.

Storytelling, media and science

I have been working on television and movie sets since I was dragged “kicking and screaming” to my first open casting call in 2016. I have now worked hundreds of hours on a wide variety of sets. The creativity and artistic expression of producers, directors, crew, and actors is inspiring and motivating.  My professional experiences and education as an actor have extended my storytelling skills into media production. My experience as a  scientist and educator drives me to express scientific methods and knowledge in a way anyone can understand and appreciate.

Science addresses our most fundamental questions

Why is the sky blue? Should I get the oil-based paint or the latex? How do I get the gum out of my hair? Why do some foods and drinks taste great together?
